We want to make you love our
country. We want to make you love the life which flows slower here
than elsewhere, voluptuously, like our rivers. But Laos is difficult
to penetrate. The means of communication and the roads are rare
and precarious.
This is one reason why tourist activity is concentrated on a few
places that are easily accessible. Sure, we too can arrange a boat
ride for you on the busiest part of the Mekong River, give you a
traditional elephant ride where for a few moments you will lose
sight of the roof of your hotel, or show you some pseudo ethnic
minorities dressed for the occasion in some unbecoming traditional
costumes...
But we would most of all like to have you share the nonchalant everyday
life of the river people, a meal with mountain people, remnants
from another era, the elegant walk of beautiful women in their long
sinh, monks out at dawn to collect food, the deep forests or simply
one of these magical tropical sunsets...
